Staring at the Sun

Searching for a Sunset

NIKON D200, 100 mm, 1/100 sec, f 4, 640

This image is nearly a year old now. Jason can attest to the fact that I have edited this image on at least 10 separate occasions in the last year. I always knew that I liked the image, but I could never get it to the point where I was truly satisfied with it, until today.

Like many other images on my site, this is from last summer's vacation in Stone Harbor. We had gone out one evening in hopes of photographing the sunset, but there was no (visible) sunset to be found. Such is life. You may notice Sean and Alex, the couple walking in the back, from another image on my site, which was taken only a few moments after this one.

Maybe this year we'll actually find that sunset...

  • Laurie » I remember that other photo. This is beautiful. I'm glad you finally got it to where you were ready to post it.
  • Amanda Gilligan » i love the tones in this. great job.
  • b » I love the composition: The similarity of the body positions in the left and center figure; the movement from left to right, front to back; the vertical figures against the horizontal shoreline and the horizon. Everything is great
  • Boje [ Gonzo Gallery ] » Beautiful. Perhaps because of your story, the photograph does convey disappointment, heads down... The similarity of poses is very striking, as is the apparent lack of shadows from the cloud I guess.
  • Chris » If it weren't for the piggy backers, I'd guess that you directed this shot. ;) The echo in the girls is awesome. Really nice form balance too.
