Katrina #20 (Image 400)

Canon EOS 5D, 120 mm, 1/100 sec, f 2.8, 800

Sorry for the strange title on today's image, but this post represents a couple milestones which I think are worthy of discussion. First, as the title indicates, this is the 20th photo of Katrina that I've posted to my blog (assuming of course that I've correctly tagged her in all images). What really struck me as I was digging through the archives to see just how many photos I have of Katrina was how much she has grown up in the few years that I've known her. For instance, check out this image from Stone Harbor just two years ago, or this image taken in the fall of 2006 - the difference seems to be night and day. Stop growing up!

Secondly, this image also marks the 400th post on my photoblog! This milestone is a bit misleading though, as I have removed more than a hundred of my older images over the years, so the actual number of images posted is probably somewhere over 500. Additionally, next week (August 17) will mark the 3 year anniversary of this photoblog, which is something I'm very proud of. If anyone who is reading this has actually been visiting for that long, I appreciate it more than you know.

As for this image, it was shot on the beach one evening, shortly after sunset. Katrina was walking through the surf collecting seashells and I stopped her for a moment to snap this shot. It was taken with the wonder 70-200mm 2.8L lens which I'm currently renting.

  • thukai » Congratulations, Justin! You've done a brilliant job both on this shot and on your blog as a whole. I must say that I'm a fan of your gear, and that lens :) How's the 24-70mm working for you?
    Keep it up!
  • scott neumyer » Great shot, man. Look at those catchlights!
  • Bob » Not sure if I've been here for three years...but close anyway! And I KNOW from experience that posting for three years can be a challenge and is a milestone worth celebrating. So, congratulations Justin!
  • Mrs. Faust » You'll never know what it means to me that you've been "documenting" my baby(ies) growing up. I see her(them) every day, so I don't notice it as much. But when I see some of the images I have to step back and wonder "wow, when did that happen?" Thanks for being around and capturing the moments.

I enjoy all of your other posts too. Keep shooting.
  • Katrina » I'm making like the exact same face in the fall portraits picture!
  • Laurie » Congrats on the milestones! That is very cool.

The portrait is wonderful and you are certainly right she has grown up. They do that. My boys...sigh...are too grown up now. I wish time would just take a brief pause so I can catch up!
  • colette » katrina, looking slightly confused as usual. haha just kidding but i like how you can almost see justin's reflection in katrina's eyes
