Snails

NIKON D200, 60 mm, 1/320 sec, f 4.2, 200

In the last few days, when I've gone out to shoot, I've forced myself to keep my camera away from the sky, and I've left my wide angle lenses at home. I've spent a lot of time lately shooting these sweeping shots of landscapes and skies, and while I enjoy those photos, I also want to maintain variation on the site.

Life has been non-stop and hectic, and sometimes the days seem to blend together. I occasionally forget to stop and smell the roses. Sometimes it's the little details in life that help keep us sane and together - it's not always about the "big picture". One of my favorite bands - The Format - has a song titled "Snails" which includes the following lines:

Snails see the benefits - The beauty in every inch

I took this shot several days ago but I uncharacteristically held it for posting until today. As a general rule I post photos as soon as I edit them, which is usually very soon after taking them. Jason always refers to his best shot of the week as his "Friday Post", and saves it for Friday. In honor of him (and the great shot he posted today) I've done the same. Enjoy your (hopefully extended) Memorial Day weekend!

  • Brandon » Wow, Justin. This photo is really fantastic. It's so vibrant!! The colors just grab you the moment your page loads. I'm generally so-so on flower macros, but this is exceptional.
  • Marius Muscalu » the colors are great man...the middle of the flower hipnotise you...
  • Jason Ertel » This is a fantastic piece of art! The soft focus of the petals, the radiating purple, and the highlights of yellow, all draw you into the calming blue... The concept of a "Friday post" is integral with the approaching seventh day and the unique qualities it possesses. However, these qualities can begin to be felt on Friday and reserving your best for it, captures that spirit and brings it into the week. See you after the weekend, brother. Jason
